There is no particular rule designed that should be followed for feeding your dog. However, feeding your dog twice a day is enough to keep them healthy and happy. The important thing that needs to be taken care of is the proportion of the food provided to the pets. It must be provided as per the weight, size, lifestyle, and health condition of the pet to maintain proper nutritional balance. You can take help from the feeding charts and consult with the Veterinarian once to get a better idea.
There are a few food items that might be harmful if fed to canine companions. Here is the list of some food items that should be avoided from feeding the pets:
Avocado: It contains persin that can cause diarrhea or vomiting in dogs. Avocado seeds can also stick to the intestines or stomach and lead to fatal health issues.
Onions & Garlic: If consumed by dogs can cause anemia because it kills the red blood cells.
Grapes & Raisins: Grapes & Raisins can cause Kidney failure. Even if consumed in a small amount can lead to serious health issues like continuous vomiting etc.
Chocolates: It is well-known that chocolate is harmful to dogs’ health. It can also cause heart problems, vomiting, seizures, and other serious health issues in dogs.
It's best to slowly transition from one food to another. For the first few days keep 75% old food with 25% new food in a bowl. Then switch to 50/50 for a few days. Followed by 25% old food and 75% new food, and finally 100% all new food. This entire process should take around 2 weeks.
Due to a natural tendency, food aggressiveness may be a hard-wired trait in some animals. If their food is not protected, they won't eat. In order to avoid provoking their hostility with people or other dogs, it is advisable to simply feed them in a separate room. A professional dog trainer might be able to assist if issues continue.
