Description
Seachem ParaGuard is a highly effective treatment for controlling parasites and external infections in fish. Unlike traditional formalin-based medications, ParaGuard is safe for fish and filters as it is made of a unique aldehyde-based formula, which contains no formaldehyde or methanol. This does not alter the pH of the aquarium, making it a safer choice for the aquatic environment. Seachem ParaGuard is a specialized treatment that is especially useful in hospitals and receiving tanks for new fish or when introducing new fish to a community tank.
ParaGuard features a proprietary blend of aldehydes, malachite green, and fish-protective polymers that work together to target and eradicate a variety of ectoparasites, including ich (Ichthyophthirius), as well as external fungal, bacterial, and viral lesions like fin rot. ParaGuard's gentle yet effective formula ensures that it tackles common issues in new fish receiving tanks or new tanks without compromising the health of fish or the efficiency of the filter.

safety & precautions
Seachem ParaGuard is designed solely for aquarium use and should not be introduced to drinking water or foodstuffs.
Wear gloves during prolonged exposure and protective eyewear to avoid potential irritation.
Always wash hands thoroughly after handling the product to prevent accidental contact with skin or ingestion.
Store ParaGuard in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Ensure the container is tightly closed when not in use.
In the event of a spill, dilute the product with water and flush it down the drain, following local regulations for waste disposal.
If the product comes into contact with the skin, wash the affected area immediately with soap and water.
If ingested, provide several glasses of water to dilute the substance and seek medical advice if a large amount is swallowed.
A sulfur odor is normal due to the product’s formulation and should not be a cause for concern.
For high chloramine concentrations, a double dose can be used safely. In emergencies involving nitrite toxicity, up to five times the normal dose may be applied.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Add 5 mL (1 capful) of ParaGuard for every 40 liters (10 US gallons) of water.
Repeat this dose daily as needed while observing the fish for any signs of stress.
Continue treatment as long as fish show no adverse effects.
For a one-hour dip, use 3 mL of ParaGuard per 4 liters (1 US gallon) in a separate container.
You may extend the dip time if the fish show no signs of stress.
Remember, a dip is most effective when followed by placing the fish in clean, treated water.
Quarantine Use
It is recommended that new fish be treated in a quarantine tank for about two weeks to prevent potential infections from spreading to the main aquarium.
This ensures any potential external infections are addressed before the fish enter your primary tank.
Preparation
Remove all invertebrates from the tank and any chemical filtration before starting treatment with ParaGuard.
This will help ensure that the product works effectively and is not filtered out prematurely.
Sensitive Fish
For fish that are particularly sensitive to medications, such as eels, loaches, rays, and sharks, begin with a partial dose and gradually increase to the full dose over several days.
This helps minimize stress and potential adverse reactions.

Best Medication
I've been using Seachem Paraguard for many years. I use it when my fish come down with Ich & it always gets rid of the parasites. With the combination of the medication, salt & a heater turned up to 95 degrees s(slowly increase the temperature day by day) by the end of the week my fish are cured. I also like this medication because even though it is blue it hasn't stained any of my decorations tubing gravel or anything else that could be sustainable to becoming stained. I called seachem & the woman I spoke with shared with me that this medication can be used for multiple purposes such as introducing new fish & other types of diseases that fish may aquire. Love Seachem products.
