safety & precautions
May generate heat on initial contact with water; always pre-wet with freshwater, not marine water.
Do not use in phosphate-buffered freshwater, as it will remove the buffer.
Avoid tumbling in media reactors to prevent dust production.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Use 85 mL (about 1/3 cup) for every 200 L (50 US gallons) of saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) of freshwater.
Pre-wet by adding to the double the volume of freshwater, then rinse before use
Place the water so that it flows through but does not tumble the media; a filter bag is recommended.
Leave for 4 days, then test phosphate/silicate; replace if the target (around 0.02 mg/L) is not reached. Otherwise, leave until levels climb again.
Continuous use of small quantities is preferable to large intermittent doses.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should Seachem PhosGuard be changed?+
Change every 4–5 days in high phosphate tanks, or when phosphate/silicate levels rise.
Will Seachem Laboratories PhosGuard Phosphate and Silicate Remover 100 ml leach phosphate or silicate back into my aquarium?
+
No, once bound, it stays inert and won’t release them.
Is aluminum oxide risky for corals or reefs?+
No, it’s safe even at triple dose and doesn’t leach aluminum under reef conditions.
Can the Seachem PhosGuard be regenerated or reused after exhaustion?+
No. PhosGuard cannot be regenerated by heating or chemical treatment, as phosphate forms covalent bonds with aluminum oxide and is not released.
What is the best way to use Seachem PhosGuard for optimal results?+
Use small quantities in a high flow area of any compatible filter, replace regularly, and always monitor phosphate/silicate with aquarium tests for best effectiveness.
