Acting as both antioxidants and oxidative agents, halogens help strengthen the coral’s soft tissue and mucus layer, thereby lowering the risk of coral bleaching.

In active reef aquariums, these elements are rapidly depleted and aquarium water treatments of their strong oxidative properties and quick reactions with organic materials. Among them, Iodine and Bromine are directly linked to enhancing the pink chromoprotein Pocciloporin, which brings out vibrant coral coloration.
